KL Breastfeeding Flash Mob 2012, Breastfeeding Rocks!

by Mommy Lyna
Posted on 24 October 2012

It was a very fine Sunday when we, a group of breastfeeding families, mothers, fathers, children and not forgetting grandparents inclusive gathered at KLCC Park for a flash mob.

What is a flash mob? A flash mob is a group of people who assemble suddenly in a place, perform an unusual and seemingly pointless act for a brief time, then disperse, often for the purposes of entertainment, satire, and artistic expression. Flash mobs are organized via telecommunications, social media, or viral emails [from: Wikipedia].

This has been planned via a Facebook group, emails, etc was to spread word about the importance of breastfeeding and breastfeeding in public places. The message was more nursing rooms please so that breastfeeding mothers can nurse their babies anytime, anywhere without have to worry about public ‘perception’.

It was a very exciting event anyway. The gathering lasted just 5 minutes but the impact created was to go on definitely for years!

I was in Singapore and JB a day, even a night before the event.  Thanks to dear hubby for driving us all the way from Nusajaya in the middle of the night. We reached home at 3 am.

The flash mob started at 10.00pm on 23rd September 2012.  It was the second breastfeeding flash mob done at the same area and my first time participating in one. We started to gather at 9.00pm in many different locations in the KLCC area.

At 9.55pm, all participants walked to the designated area and gathered for 5 minutes, nursing our babies before we called it a day.

The event was featured in prime newspapers and TV programs.

Famous motivational speaker and Ophthalmologist, Professor Muhaya came to support her breastfeeding daughters and the whole breastfeeding communities, definitely.

My nursing baby, Danny fell asleep along the way. He could have been very tired from the long journey. However, he still got his milk instantly when I put him on my SSC. It’s so easy, baby wearing and breastfeeding at one go!

I felt overwhelmed meeting other nursing parents, catching up with old friends and meeting new friends.

So, we shall be expecting more nursing rooms at our favourite shopping galleries!
