My baby is nine month old; he’s been admitted to hospital because of cough and breathing not in normal pattern. Doctor treated as bronchiolitis (Government hospital).
Actually my baby has been attacked by cough and flu every month since he’s turning to six months old and my private pediatric doctors advised us to take this medicine Ventolin and flixotide. The doctor said this medicine for prevention of asthma and advises us to take it for at least three month. Both parents and closest family member don’t have asthma problem. As today we have been giving it to my baby almost one month and he is still having cough sometimes (at least for three days) but not as bad as last time.
My question: should I continue using it for three months or stop it? Is this medicine not harmful for infant baby; no side effects if we use it for three month? Just worried that my baby would depend on this medicine for long term use.

Thank you for your email.
It is unusual for babies to cough persistently for more than a month especially if associated with recurrent wheezing every month. A diagnosis of asthma in this age is difficult to make but the medications prescribed are helpful and safe when used appropriately. He should respond well within a few weeks.
If no better then its best he returns for a review.
