My daughter is about 1 1/2 years old. My elderly relatives have been telling me to add some salt/soya sauce into her food otherwise she will lack salt and face health problems. Is that true?

Hi Ida

We advise against the use of salt in children below 1 year of age.

This is because infant kidneys are still immature and will be unable to tolerate excess salt in diet. However, after 1 yr old usual amounts of salt in cooking with no added table salt or soy sauce is advised.

I hope this is of help to you
