Almira’s First Step
by IntanPosted on 14 September 2011
My daughter, Almira has finally started walking last month at 13 months! To me, it was quite a long wait since family and friends kept saying that baby girl usually takes their first step early. So there I was expecting my daughter to start walking before she turns 1. Well, I thought at least she will start walking earlier than her brother, Husayn but in the end she started walking at the age when her brother took his first step too!
With my firstborn, Husayn, he used to learn to walk by roaming around the house with his baby walker, but Almira really hates the walker and she usually throws a tantrum if I put her inside. She prefers putting her hand against the wall or holding on the furniture such as sofa to guide herself in taking that first step.
Of course when your kids started that very first step, you will find yourself with headaches chasing after them. Almira is no different. She will walk all over the house, attempt to climb the stairs, standing while wiggling her butt and grinning mischievously every time her favourite songs are on TV, ‘destroy’ her brother’s favourite toys by throwing it somewhere and she even loves to ‘help’ rearrange her own closet to my utter dismay!
I sometimes was even guilty of accidentally falling asleep while Almira was still awake and gleefully exploring the whole house with only her 4 year old brother watching over her. There were two incidents where she accidentally fell from the sofa no thanks to my ‘sleepiness’ but luckily on both occasions, she got away unscathed though she did cry. I felt really guilty so nowadays if I feel myself drifting off to sleep, I put Almira in the baby hammock and makes her sleep too! During the recent Hari Raya celebration, Almira who has begun walking faster and faster had a whale of a time roaming around relatives’ and friends’ houses that we visited and she even managed to’ rearrange’ the raya biscuits and cookies in some houses. I ended up chasing after her around the table, in front of everybody, but of course looking at her mother chasing after her, my daughter just grinned at me and tried to run faster!

Anyway, I hope it’s not too late to wish Mamababyworld’s Muslim readers a blessed Hari Raya!
