Amber Chia Just Can’t Get Enough Of Baby Ashton Calling Her Mama

by Amber Chia
Posted on 12 August 2011

Baby Ashton just started calling me Mama. Isn’t that wonderful? The first time he looked at me and said: “Mama”, my heart just flipped over - it was the most incredible feeling. I just can’t get enough of hearing him call me Mama. It’s sweet music to my ears. I love hearing it. I don’t know if he gets tired of saying Mama but I am always prompting him to say Mama.

Mind you, Mama is not the first word he said. He said, “Papa” first. I would like to think that is because Papa is easier to say than Mama. *wink* His repertoire is improving slowly. At the moment, he can say four words - Mama, Papa, Kai Kai and MumMum. When he says Kai Kai, he means he wants to go out and MumMum means he is hungry and wants food.

Gosh! Ashton is now 10 1/2 months old already. He is growing so fast! I would say that I get to experience different kinds of joy and emotions with every milestone that Ashton achieves. Motherhood is such a beautiful journey.

He is at that curious stage you know. He gets his hands on everything in our house; puts everything into his mouth, pulls things out and drops them, etc. We have to be careful not to leave any dangerous objects lying about. He can crawl super fast. Before you can even say, “Ashton, no touching please”, he is already there! He can’t walk yet but he can pull himself up with support.

My baby Aston is a very demanding little guy. He wants my attention all the time. I am not compIaining because I love how he looks for me the most. I am so happy when I see him get excited in anticipation of my hugs. I am happy knowing he is happy. Oh yes, he can show me when he is not happy. He throws tantrums. But he is a good boy most times. He can sit and play by himself when he wants to.

People always comment that my baby Ashton is very friendly. When I take him along to shows, events or outings with friends, he smiles at everyone. Even now as I speak, he is smiling at me. He has a blog you know. He has a lot of fans now and some of them are young girls who are about 7 to 10 years old. They are crazy about Ashton. They design pretty graphics for him and always say, “Ashton I love you!” You know he is going to be more popular than me in the future.  What is most important to me is he is happy and healthy.

I am more selective with toys at this stage. Baby Ashton gets bored easily. The novelty of a new toy lasts only for a day or two. I think all babies are like that. I do spend time playing with him. I try to engage him in educational games but he gets restless easily you know. Once, I was teaching him how to put stars and squares in the correct boxes and he kind of looked at me with those eyes that said: “C’mon, this is boring. I don’t want to do this anymore”. He loves My Play Room in Bangsar Shopping Centre and Kizsports Gym in Bangsar Village though. I try to take him there at least once a week. These two places are very suitable fun places for kids to be in whilst parents shop without worrying about them. I usually play with him for awhile before going away to do some shopping. I don’t leave him alone – his Nanny will be there to keep an eye on him.

I took baby Ashton out to a lot of events. He just did a show for Keith Kee 3 days ago. He was the youngest in the show and everybody just loved him.  He behaved like a real professional on the stage. He enjoyed himself so much that he wanted me to take him back on the stage after the show ended. He got so excited from the show that he was still awake at 11:00pm that night. I think he enjoys being a model. He also just did a shoot for the Huggies ad. You will see Ashton in the ad when it is out in the market.

I can’t wait for Ashton to grow up now. He is a lot bigger than other babies. Most people think he is 1-2 yrs old but he is not even 1 yet. He is a tall boy…very tall. He is so adorable. I love him and I am having a great time with him. I stopped travelling and cut down on my job to spend more time with him. He is my top priority, my business is my second priority and my husband is my third priority. *LOL* No, everything is important but I would say that baby Ashton will always be my first priority. Sometimes my husband complains. He goes like: “Wah, why always treat Ashton so nice, why never treat me the same.” He gets jealous you know. I am very lucky – my husband still loves me the most.
