I Love Breastfeeding Because It’s A Brain-feeder!

by Mommy Lyna
Posted on 20 April 2011

I fell in love with breastfeeding when my friend who got married before we finished studies showed me her expressed breastmilk. When I got married, my husband told me that he wanted his future children to be breastfed as he noticed the difference between his breastfed cousins and non-breastfed cousins in terms of immunity.

When I got pregnant with my firstborn, I aggresively learned about breastfeeding. Luckily, my gynaecologist was breastfeeding her children. She even tandem breastfed and practiced breastfeeding during pregnancy. She was a complete package for an inspirational source!

So when my child was born, I breastfed him. Even though he is now 4 years old and has 2 younger brothers, he’s still attached to my breast and so are his brothers.

Why am I so in love with breastfeeding? You bet, breastfeeding is the best. It gives more than fully nutritious food to our babies. The action of feeding from the breast is to ignite and practice good brain development for breastfeeding babies.

During breastfeeding, skin-to-skin contact between mother and baby provides a calming effect to both mother and baby. This is so relaxing especially when baby is older, his hands loves to crawl on the mother’s bosom which stimulates more milk.

It is popularly believed that breastmilk increases the baby’s IQ and EQ. And breastfeeding gives more - when the baby is attached to his mother’s breast, the security he feels inculcates confidence. The action of changing breast enhances hand-eye coordination of the baby. When baby suckles at the left breast, his right hand is free to touch and explore and vice versa when he suckles at the right breast.

The activity of suckling on the breast is not merely to suck the milk out but also to feed the brains.

No wonder breastfed babies are smarter!

That is why I love breastfeeding. Furthermore, breastfeeding leaves sentimental feelings in me. It gives me some blissful experience; breastfeeding during pregnancy, tandem nursing, breastfeeding a premaure baby, breastfeeding toddlers and now I am tandem nursing my three boys! Doesn’t it look so crowded down here? grin
