Me, My Son And Sports Activities

by Intan

It’s been nearly one year and a half but I have started playing futsal again last week! Well, it’s not exactly only futsal, but a number of other sports as well. The place where I work is having this sports carnival and I who have been sports-less for quite some time has found myself being forced to play futsal, badminton and volleyball!

I’ve always love sports but not talented enough to make it to the national level, but still that is not an excuse not to be involved in any games. I remember back in 2009 when my eldest, Husayn was only 2 years old and I was representing my agency playing futsal for the inter agency sports tournament. Back then, I have to attend training for 3 times a week, and most of the weekends were spent playing friendly games or tournaments. It was grueling yes, but I had fun and I usually went to trainings with Husayn and husband in tow. Sometimes I think the role seemed reverse since it was usually the wife and kid watching the husband play futsal, but in my case I was the one who played.

By bringing Husayn along to the training I think it inculcates his interest in sports and will make him an active and healthy kid. Sometimes I even spent my weekends playing football with him in front of the house. I even thought of enrolling him in football training school – not to make him a national player or something, but more to instill teamwork value and discipline.

Personally, I think sports is one of the best way for me and my son to bond. As for his younger baby sister, I hope to make her love sports as well. After all, she was already a few weeks in my womb when I was involved in a futsal tournament – and there I was playing 3 games in a row without having any inkling that I was pregnant at that time!
