Middle Child Syndrome is No Joke!

by Mommy Lyna

Brought Fahry to Gleneagles Intan this morning for his physiotherapy. It was a great day as Fahry had a good night’s sleep, after not sleeping well a few nights before. I’m not sure what he had been through, no cough, no flu, no fever but every 10 minutes he’d scream, even he got up and pointed to something.

It stopped as I started to play Quran recitation in our room all the way from night to dawn.

So during the session Fahry looked so energetic and happy. He played in freedom even if without instruction from the Physiotherapist.

After the session, the physiotherapist marked a score sheet for Fahry, to see how he develops.

Alhamdulillah he scored full marks for 2 years old skills, even the 3 years old skills, and currently practising for 4 year old skills. So proud of Fahry! Even the physiotherapist was surprised of his awesome achievement.

But there’s one thing we might need to look into. The physiotherapist detected that Fahry had a little symptom of something called ‘middle child syndrome’. I heard about it before but thinking that it’s a common thing and not serious so I just ignored. But she explained that children, those who get the syndrome, either will become depress or aggressive.

She had a patient, a 2-year old little boy who suddenly became paralyzed after his mother had another baby. After few sessions of therapy, the boy still couldn’t walk. Until she asked the mother to ‘leave’ the new baby for a while and spend time with her elder son, then after few days he started walking again!
Poor boy T_T

She told us that we have to think about this very seriously, because the tendency for Fahry to be trapped in the middle child syndrome is high, plus, his disability might cause him to feel isolated.

Now we have 2 boys who need different attention. Hafiy still having it (hunger for attention) even after 2 years being a big brother and now it is Fahry’s turn. LOL.
Who say parenting my boys is easy?
