Stroller vs Baby Wearing

by Intan
Posted on 26 September 2010

When I was pregnant with my eldest, Husayn, I saw lots of parents bringing their babies to shopping malls by safely tucking them in their strollers. I thought it would be nice to own one too since it would be easy to put him inside the stroller while I go shopping. And so I bought one.

But of course, I forgot that not all babies are the same and not all babies love to be stuck inside the stroller. That stroller was used only twice and Husayn kept screaming and crying because that little guy actually preferred to be carried around. Husband hated that stroller since it is kind of bulky and it occupied most of the space in our little Kelisa back then.

Thank goodness an auntie of mine gave me a baby carrier as a present and that was the beginning of my journey with baby wearing. Well, it’s more like husband’s journey with baby wearing because he was the one who usually carried Husayn around back then! We went to the shopping malls, to the park, and even Genting Highlands with husband strapping Husayn to his body. If he cried, I brought Husayn to the baby room to breastfeed him, and once he’s okay I passed him back to husband and Husayn will be carried using the baby carrier again. Usually he’ll be fast asleep as soon as he’s carried so travelling around is so easy!

With my second one, Almira, it’s a different story. This one, instead of husband carrying her around, I am the one who is doing it this time. I won’t say it’s all beds of roses because the first time I wear a ring sling with Almira at a shopping mall, I got aches all over my body! I nearly bought a stroller but of course thinking the money that I could have saved, I soldiered on. As time went by and I get used to baby wearing, the aches are getting lesser and Almira also seemed to love being strapped to yours truly. How do I know she loves being in the ring sling or baby carrier? Well, she miraculously falls asleep after a few minutes and won’t wake up unless she’s hungry.

So stroller vs baby carrier, which would you prefer? For me it would be nice to have both, provided that the stroller can be fold easily and not too bulky so it won’t take up so much storage space. But as for now, since I don’t have that kind of stroller and a good stroller is quite costly, I guess I’m staying with baby wearing. Most importantly, it’s cheaper and my baby sleeps soundly all day long in it!
