Where to go during this school holiday?

by Intan

The school holiday has started again!

For parents who have school going kids I guess this is the perfect time to bring your kids for vacation. And then there’s some parents like me who don’t have school going kids yet but is planning to take some time off to bring my kids somewhere while at the same time having a good excuse to stay away from work for a while. Husband and I usually reached home around 8 something at night and the kids are usually too tired during that time. Weekends and holidays are the only chances of me and husband having a bonding time with the kids!

Our holiday to Pangkor Island back in 2009

So where to bring your kids during this school holiday? Here are a few places that I have in mind. Don’t worry, all this places are not that far and will be perfect to go during the weekend and you parents don’t even need to take extra days leave, so no excuse of not going anywhere during this school holidays!

National Science Centre
I actually pass by this place everyday on my way to the office but shame on me, I have never ever been to this place! Ticket per entrance is RM6 for adult and RM3 for 7-12 years old kids. National Science Centre located in Bukit Kiara is the perfect place to expose your kids to science and technology the fun way and since I myself is not that good in Science back during my school days, I think this place will be a great learning experience for me too!

Putrajaya Botanical Park
The Putrajaya Botanical Park would be perfect for that morning or afternoon walk to bring the whole family together. Hey, maybe we can even have a mini picnic here while enjoying nature. This is also an awesome place to expose your kids to plants and this botanical park is one of the many gardens that has been gazetted for development as a tropical garden. You can walk, jog or even rent bicycles to enjoy your time here.

Sepang Goldcoast
Living in KL means we don’t have the privilege of having a beach nearby. One of the nearest besides Port Dickson would be the Bagan Lalang or the Sepang Goldcoast. Chilling with your kids in the seabreeze, and enjoying the seawave, it should be fun! My eldest, Husayn first beach experience was at Kuantan’s Teluk Cempedak Beach, but for Baby Almira I guess it’s the nearer to home – Sepang Goldcoast!

National Museum
My dad used to bring me a lot to National Museum when I was a kid, and that must be why I so love History (well, besides mum being a History teacher so I guess it’s in the genes too!) So for my kids to have a head start in History, I guess it’s time for them to visit the museum. After all at RM2 per entry, you get to experience Malaysia’s history and that is to me ultra cheap!

Planetarium
The perfect place to start if you want your kids to be an astronaut like Sheikh Muzaffar! Watch space shows, explore space exhibits and immerse yourself in all those space stuff at the Planetarium!

All this while I guess I’m guilty of bringing my kids to the shopping mall most of the weekends to pass the time! For me the above places are a good place not only for family bonding time, but also to learn in a fun way. After all, for the above places, entrance fee is minimal so no excuse of not having extra money to bring your kids somewhere during this holiday!

Lastly, have fun!
