Why I Love Home Education

by Mommy Lyna
Posted on 09 March 2011

I love home education! It started from the moment I gave birth to my firstborn. I knew then that all babies are geniuses, and able to learn even before they are born!  So I took the chance to introduce my boy to alphabets, numbers and objects before he even knew the cartoon heroes.

My boy started to recognize numbers and alphabets at 7 or 8 month and he knew them by heart by the time he celebrated his first birthday. I noticed that he enjoyed playing with his alphabet cards and alphabet magnet rather than watching TV. I even didn’t allow him to watch too much TV, only educational DVDs.

Even when I am working in the office and also at home,  I still struggle to find suitable time to spend with my boys; educating them. This would at least make them love books rather than get attached to the TV.

So, why do I love home education so much?

1.  Always One-to-One
Now I have 2 boys in the house, and I can always have a one-to-one session with any of them. I can teach them reading, writing, coloring and other skills without worrying about them being left out which they might face in a class of many pupils.

2.  More focus on each of the children
It is easier to examine what is going on with the children if they cannot focus or do something like others when we have fewer children to monitor. When a mother looks after this by herself, she would know what makes her child behave like this and that, and find a suitable approach.

3.  Flexibility
Each child learns differently. Home education allows flexibility with a lesser number of children to attend to and the mother can change her style of teaching according to the children’s interests. This is impossible to do in any school because they have a fixed curriculum and syllabus to follow.

4.  Customized and personalized
A mother can use many approaches to attract her children’s attention.  And it is very personalized. A young child will be very happy to learn when he is in his comfort zone.

5.  Full of love
This is the important part of home education. I like to teach my children because I love early education and I love them very much. I don’t want my children to be influenced by other factors… and definitely not the negative ones! Doing activities together would strengthen family bonding.

Home education is not merely teaching kids academic things but also all good values that would help them to grow up as effective individuals. There is no place like home for children’s activities; early education included.

Happy educating!
