Dr. Patrick Chia
Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist

Dr. Patrick Chia spent more than 15 years in the United Kingdom, where he obtained both his undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. He was a lecturer in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) and was pivotal in the setting up the Maternal-Fetal Division of the Department of Ostetrics & Gynaecology. He was later appointed associate professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the International Medical University and saw the pioneer batch of graduating from the clinical school.
His passion includes the teaching of undergraduates and postgraduates, including ultrasound training and accreditation. He regularly promote awareness and excellence in the field of fetal medicine in Malaysia. He has organised numerous courses, mainly in the area of ultrasound and have spoken in many of them. He has also been invited to speak at meetings and conferences both locally and in the region. In recognition for his contribution to ultrasound training in Primary Care, he was awarded the fellowship by the Academy of Family Physicians of Malaysia on 3rd April 2010.
He has contributed to more than 60 publications in peer review journals, chapters in books and review articles. He has also authored pregnancy books for the public and edited some books for ultrasound training. He has also written many articles in pregnancy magazines and books. His current project is the publication of an illustrated book for pregnancy. The other area of interest includes the management of recurrent pregnancy loss, where he spear-headed the formation of the pregnancy loss support group.
Presently Dr Chia practises in the Klang Valley specialising in screening and management of fetal abnormalities and high risk pregnancy care. He also provides consultation for gynaecological complaints and combines the newer technological advances in screening and evidence-based medicine to promote fetal, maternal & women’s health and well being.
