Hi doctor,
My baby is 11 months old and recently I noticed she had difficulty in
defecation, which is hard and sometimes with blood surrounding it. I gave
her porridge in the day time, 3-4 times a week with apple juice and fed her
Promil Gold Step 2 Infant food. Also I let her drank a lot of water.
She is an active, smart and lovely baby.
Thank you

Dear Mummy/Daddy,
Please do not worry as what your baby is suffering from is fairly common. The blood surrounding the stool is most likely caused by the hardness of her faeces tearing the anal margin, and therefore causing something called an ‘anal fissure’ (ie. a tear in the lining of the anus). You mentioned porridge three times a week but did not mention what ingredients are contained in the porridge. I would suggest adding in some vegetables, making sure they are well blended into the mixture. Giving her juice every day would also help, as would soft fresh fruits - this will provide her with the fibre she needs as well as plenty of vitamins to aid her growth and development.
If the bleeding continues however, it would be a good idea to bring her to your doctor/paediatrician.
11-month olds are lovely aren’t they?
Congratulations again.
