My baby has hiccups quite often. Is it a good sign or are there any ways I
can stop the hiccups?
Regards,

Hi Shiuen
Thanks for your email enquiry.
Babies in the 1st few months of life have frequent hiccups following feeds. This is perfectly normal. It will get better within 4-6 months. This is because, when your baby feeds, his tummy when full will touch against the diaphragm (a respiratory muscle that separates the abdomen from the chest) causing the diaphragm to contract, hence the hiccup. Please do not give water though, as is frequently practised. Water is to be given only when you start supplementing with solids at 6 months of age onwards.
I hope this has been of help.
Kind regards
